Time To Make Amends: The Long List Of Sins Health Net Committed

Health Net operates a business seemingly on the brink of collapse. The company stumbled big time, and the proof was the missing $400 million from its balance sheet. Yet beyond the insurer’s bleeding finances, it committed graver offenses, and it’s about time for Health Net to take responsibility and make amends.

At the very least, Health Net must admit that mistakes were made while conducting its business. Then an explanation is in order to make clear the things that were hard to understand until now. Likely, such an act will soothe the pain of those that were affected mainly by Health Net’s missteps.

These are the healthcare providers whose businesses were hit hard by the insurer’s decision to withhold, delay, or reduce payment claims. And carrying the pain until now of losing healthcare coverage are the thousands of patients and their parents. They expect clarifications, a closure perhaps, and if possible, a sincere apology from Health Net.

Things To Say Sorry For

Health Net denied or reduced payments, and the company did not bother to justify the move. The decision came as a shock to many behavioral treatment centers, among them Sovereign’s facilities. These providers suffered and were bewildered that even previously authorized claims were thumbed down. At the same time, the providers took a hit on their reputation, and it’s something that is not easy to rebuild.

On this, Health Net can hit a good start by coming clean and telling the truth. Doing so will allow these providers to reclaim their good names, and to be sure these are more important than the loss of income they suffered.

However, the patients and their families are still absorbing the problems generated by Health Net’s sins. The loss of access to healthcare denied them the hope to recover from their condition. Many were driven to anxiety and depression – their dreams of living a new life shattered because Health Net made the realization of greater profits a priority.

These patients paid their premiums religiously, believing that Health Net will take care of all the risks. In the end, the insurer abandoned them. They lost their hard-earned money, and so is the chance for recovery. It is only fair that Health Net does the right thing – restore the benefits due to these people and give them compensation for the damages and sufferings caused.

Health Net Must Tell The Truth

Health Net conducted business the way it saw fit, but, in the process, the company contradicted the reason for its existence. Yes, an insurance company needs to make money to sustain its operation, but the basic should not be relegated to the backseat. Policyholders buy health plans because of the assurance that the insurer will cover their bills. Yet Health Net’s behavior in the past years defied such expectations.

America demands an answer to why Centene and Health Net are acting as if life has no importance. These companies adopted draconian measures to recover past losses and generate higher revenues. It’s not hard to see that such a business practice was stripped of humanity. And Health Net owes an explanation why its supposedly noble service now lacks care and compassion for the people in need.
